　　Task 1

　　1. Some high school students in your community are planning to initiate a program promoting environmental friendliness. What advice would you offer them and why? Please include specific examples and details in your explanation.

　　Personally, I would help them to design some flyers and posters, and send the flyers to the people in the local community. In these flyers and posters, I will include information to make people aware that environment protection is really important, like the lung problems caused by the haze and fog in big cities. Also, I will offer a few tips on how to protect environment, like people should not litter around, and they should take public transportation instead of driving their own vehicles, plant green trees, and use water more efficiently.

　　2. If you have an opportunity to go to a free class during the weekend，which of the following would you choose to go to public speaking, starting your own business, or photography and why? Please include details and examples in your explanation.

　　Personally, I would like to attend a public speaking class. It is a very important skills not only for a student but also for a professional in a working environment. As a student, we might need to write a paper, and present it in front of the fellow students, if you have excellent public speaking skills, you are likely to convey your ideas and research result much more effectively. Also, for a professional, one might need to present their product and show it to the client, the public speaking class can help them to be more persuasive and convincing.

　　3. What kind of suggestions do you have to someone who is going to visit your city.

　　Since I am from a coastal city in China. I would say the best time to visit is during the summer, especially June, when it is not too hot. You can bath in the sun while appreciating the beautiful scenery alone the seashore, like the blossom and palm trees and stuff. One should definitely try out the sea food like salmon, tuna and even some lobsters. Apart from that, the last thing you should miss out when visiting this nice and beautiful city is sea and water activities like snorkeling, wakeboarding and even jet skiing. You might get a little sun burnt but still worth it.

　　4. Nowadays many people move to cities for work and study. what advantages does moving to cities bring to people?

　　There are numerous benefits one can get by working and studying in a big city. For example, people are likely to get better education, medical treatment, and even social welfare. Apart from that, a big city is multi cultural and full of dynamics, there are people from all over the country and even from around the globe. Getting a chance to experience different languages, customs and cultures will benefit the kids a lot when they grow up and it will make them a better and well-rounded person. Furthermore, fresh graduate can land their dream jobs much easily than in a small city, where the job opportunities are relatively scarce.

　　5. If your university plans to improve the life of students by one of the following methods, which do you prefer?

　　(1) build a new cafeteria

　　(2) build a new indoor swimming pool

　　(3) make improvements in dormitories

　　Personally, I would say they university should renovate dorms for the following reasons. To begin with, dorms are the place where students spend most of their time besides library and classrooms.　To provide students a better environment to live in can help them to relax properly, quiet and comfy dorms can keep students refreshed after a good sleep at night, and thus they can concentrate better during the lectures. On top of that, lots of students will be attracted to our university if we renovate our dorms, thus renovating the dorm can help our university to boast its popularity.

　　6. Describe a day you enjoyed most recently. Why people have a good time together?

　　Well, last week, a bunch of my colleagues and I went fishing in a state park. We drove to the park around 6 o'clock in the afternoon. and then set up the fishing pole and began to fish. it was very quiet and the air was very fresh, the water was super crystal. it was very enjoyable. we were very lucky that today and scored lots of fish. and then we set up the grill and baked the fish on the grill. it was very delicious. Everybody there had a wonderful time.

　　7. What is your advice to a friend of you who is going to have a job interview.

　　Well, first impression is fairly important, so I would suggest my friend dress up nicely, a nice suit and a proper tie that goes with it should be highly recommended. The interviewer will be amazed by the first impression my friend leaves on him or her, the interview will be likely to go well, as the saying goes, well begun is half done. Additionally, some proper research about the company my friend is interviewing with is needed, things like the market share, its competitors, and corporation culture. This shows that my friend has already made some effort to know the company even before the interview.

　　8. If you were given a chance to the moon, would you go there.

　　Personally, I would definitely go there if I got a chance to get back to the earth. Getting a chance to explore unknown stuff can be thrilling, the landscape and terrain of the moon are totally different from those of the earth, it will be great fun to witness what it is like on the moon, and I bet it will be totally different from the images that I have seen on TV. Also, I might find important evidence to support lives there and make great contribution to the research on life forms on the moon.

　　9. If you were asked to do some community activities, which one of the following three volunteer work would like to do most?

　　If I were asked to do some volunteer work, I would definitely choose to work with children. I think children are always fun to be around, when I am spending my time with children I feel I am very happy and fulfilling. I can read them books, tell them stories about great people, and stuff like that. Also, to have some perspective on things from children's angle can be quite interesting. Adults might make things complicated while children are very naive and innocent, and tend to simplify things, sometimes we can even learn from them.

　　10. Your professor is asking you to help with some research work on the weekend, but you have planned to go to your sister’s birthday party. Which would you choose to do? Explain why?

　　Personally, I would say I'd like to go to my sister's birthday party and spend some quality time with her. To begin with, there are far more important stuff in life than just doing research in school and keeping a high GPA, my family members are also very important to me. My sister's birthday only happens once a year, it will be a shame for me to miss it, and I bet she will be very excited if I show up in the party. Additionally, I can put off the research for now, and I think the professor is a considerate person, and he will understand my tough situation.

　　11. Computer technology has influenced student’s study in various ways. Give examples to illustrate the advantage that a computer helps in your study.

　　Well, I cannot agree more that computer has made our study much easier and more efficiently. Actually, when I do research, I can just type in the key words of the topic that I am researching, and then the next moment I know, there are millions of sources showing up on the screen, and I can use whichever I need to. It is so instant and convenient, and most of the sources are free. Additionally, I can use lots of software on the computer to help to study more efficiently, like, recently, I am preparing the TOEFL exam, I can just use a dictionary on the computer to check the unfamiliar words, it's far more effective than using a traditional dictionary.

　　1. Do you agree with the following statement: it is important to study the history from ancestors.

　　I couldn't agree more with that, learning history from ancestors is a great way to learn the mindset, ideas, and attitudes of the past, and this gives us a chance to learn from who we came from and find one's identity. Additionally, we can draw upon the ancient philosophy to make today's world a better place, like

　　ancient Chinese philosophy can gives us some insight on how to live harmoniously with the mother nature and stop polluting the environment, to help the preserve the endangered species, and stuff like that.

　　2. Do you agree with the following statement: school should ban on all junk food, such as hamburger, soda, and sugar from school property.

　　Personally, it is really important for the school to encourage healthy eating habits, and junk food like French fries and hamburgers alike should be banned in schools. Too much junk food with high carbs leads to childhood obesity. Additionally, Greasy junk food lacks certain vitamins for the healthy development of the children, and students without sufficient healthy food might suffer from lack of concentration on their study and they get easily distracted, thus school should encourage healthy eating habit.

　　3. Some people like to do exam review in the morning, while others would like to do that in the evening. Which one do you prefer and why?

　　I would say I like to review exams in the evening. One of the reasons is that, I find it more quiet in the evening and I can concentrate on my reviewing, however if I did some review during the day, I would easily get distracted, actually, it is kind of noisy during the day, finding a peaceful spot to study is pretty difficult. Also, I feel like I am more energetic during night time, and I am kind of sluggish during the day, so doing some review during the night can be really productive for me.

　　4. Some like to make gifts themselves to friends, while others like to buy gifts. Which way do you prefer and why?

　　Personally, I would choose to make gifts myself. Usually, we give gifts to friends and family member when it is a special occasion, like on their marriage, birthday or their graduation day. I really want to make them feel special when giving the present, and remember that particular member forever. By making the gift myself, I can put my friends name on it and write something especially to him or her. However, buying a nice gift not only costs me a fortune, but also it is not so meaningful, since everyone can get it from the store. That is basically why I would like to make the gift myself.

　　5. Some universities have decided to force students who cheat at school to leave the school. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Please include reasons and details in your explanation.

　　By forcing the students who cheat at school to leave, other students might learn that honesty is the best policy. Indeed, honesty is quite important, cuz nobody wants to deal with a cheater. This will help to prevent further cheating in exam and other kinds of assignments, thus creating a very fair academic environment. However, there are also obvious advantages, students who cheat are not mature enough to tell right from wrong, they just simply made a tiny mistake, and everybody deserves a second chance to be better person, it is quite relentless to deprive their right to be educated, and they might be a very brilliant kid who just made a stupid mistake. In this case, it will a big loss.

　　6. Some people prefer to give practical gifts while others prefer to give entertaining gifts. Which do you prefer to give and why? Please use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

　　Personally, I prefer to give practical gifts to my friends. Notebook, bookshelf, basketball and stuff are very good choices. For example, a friend can take notes in class with the help of a notebook, they can create a shopping list, and even keep a diary by writing about what happened in their lives, including the things make them happy, sad and angry. Since the notebook is used so often, it can help me to connect more with my friends, and keep our friendship forever. However, they might not care a lot if you give them things like, cartoon figurine, or other kinds of decorative stuff.

　　7. Do you agree or disagree: school should ask their students to evaluate teachers.

　　Personally, I think that schools should ask their students to evaluate teachers. To begin with, this can give students a stake in the quality of their education, if a teacher fails the expectation of the students, they might get replaced because their poor evaluation from the students., thus they students might get a chance to have a much better teacher. Additionally, this provides the teachers with very good feedback, so they can make some changes accordingly. They can make their lesson plan, course material and even PowerPoint slides much nicer, therefore, students can improve their learning in the class.

　　8. While traveling, some people prefer to go to new places, others prefer to visit familiar places. Which do you think it better? Explain why.

　　Personally, I would to choose to travel to new places instead of familiar places. I am the kind of person who likes new and exciting things and exploration. Just visiting a familiar place is not fun, and actually it is pretty boring. On top of that, travelling around in different places makes me a well-rounded person. When travelling, I got a chance to talk to locals and get to know their culture, customs and way of living. By interacting with them I can broaden my horizon and have new perspective on things.

　　9. Some students prefer to go to universities or colleges in their hometown. Others prefer to go to universities or colleges in new cities or towns. Which do you prefer and why? Include details and examples in your explanation.

　　Personally, I prefer to study in a new city. I think it is very boring to stay in your city, where you have been living for almost 20 years, they people you will meet are still those you met during primary school and high school. However, to be able to study in another city, you get a chance to learn their local cultures, appreciate the natural beauty, and above all meet more exciting people, and by interacting with local people and making new friend in that city during college, you can broaden your horizon and enrich you life experience.

　　10. If you have a chance to learn something new, which of the following would you like to learn? Flying an airplane, playing a sport or playing an musical instrument.

　　I would definitely choose to play a new sport. I find it very relaxing when I play sports, it helps me to release my tension and depression that I got from both my life and study. Apart from that, playing sports is a very good way to keep healthy and try to be in good shape. It helps you to build up some muscles and be athletic, it is also good for your cardio vascular system. Lastly, I get a chance to meet new friends and broaden my social network when playing a sport, getting to know different people is a very thrilling experience for me.

　　11. Are you willing to carefully choose the gift which your friends like or choose whatever you like?

　　Personally, I would carefully choose a gift that my friends like. The reasons are quite obvious, the only reason why we buy gift for our friends is because we want them happy and feel that they are loved and cared by us. Anyone with a clear mind should not randomly choose gifts, otherwise, if we end up choosing a gift that our friends don't like, they might be angry and that will jeopardize our friendship. However, if you choose a gift carefully, the friend will appreciate the time and effort you put in selecting the gift for him or her, and thus one can bond more with their friends.

　　12. Some students prefer to study for only one long time during a week. Others students prefer to study for several short times during a week. Which way do you prefer and why?

　　I prefer to study for several short times instead of studying for a long time during a week and have the following reason for support. You know, as a college student I am very busy with all kinds of studies, we have different kinds of assignments, like presentations, group projects, papers to write and exams. Studying for several short time makes it possible for us to take a rest once in a while, however, studying for a long time during a week without any break will kill me and of course, we will be so worn out and not as productive as studying for several short time.

　　13. Some students prefer to have an early class schedule with classes in the morning, others prefer to have a late class schedule so they can go to classes in the afternoon. Which one do you prefer? Explain why.

　　Personally, I prefer to have class scheduled early in the morning, to begin with, I am the kind of person like to sleep in if I have nothing important to do in the morning. However, if I know there is an early morning class to take, I will get up early and get prepared, and plus, I can use the rest of the day to do other stuff, and be productive. On top of that, I am at my best during the hours before noon, I feel energized after a full night's sleep and taking a bracing morning shower, thus I can concentrate better.
